Ok, science time =D *rolls up sleeves*
First up, for this, I’ll need to explain how real silencers work. A gun will produce 4 main types of sound; the sound of the detonation, the sound of the bullet breaking the sound barrier (“ballistic crack”), the action of the gun as it ejects the shell, and the impact. Real silencers will deal with the detonation, and nothing else. Ballistic crack can only be remedied by using subsonic rounds, and action can be fixed using internal silencers -basically padding. Can’t do anything about impact. The silencer allows the gas to expand in a larger area (usually 40-50x the volume of the barrel), so that the pressure when it leaves the gun is lower, so quieter (sound is just a pressure wave). Oh and the holes on the side are only for some silencers, and act to allow the pressure to be dissipated even more undetectably (they vent the air in such a way that the sound it generates is of ultrasonic frequency, so the human ear can’t hear).
Now to airsoft =D. Obviously neither ballistic crack nor impact are a problem. There is no explosion, so the pressure of the gas is relatively low. A silencer will reduce the sound from this pressure, but for an airsoft rifle, the main source of sound is the action. As such, what you’ll need to do is to use padding to reduce the sound of this; the most prominent sound will be of metal on metal as the slide blows back, and a tiny piece of fabric on the points of contact will almost completely eliminate this sound (may take some effort to get it just right so the fabric doesn’t jam the gun.
